White and Navy Blue Themed Playa del Carmen Wedding – Karina and Douglas
Have I ever told you the story of how a girl from Columbia and a boy from Brasil decided to have their wedding in Mexico? Well, as every great love story starts with a great story, so is this one. Everything began when Karina went on a cruise ship on a route via Mexico and met (now her husband) Douglas. Little by little, they fell in love and always knew in their hearts, that Mexico should be the place where they get to say their ‘I DOs’ and read their vows. Perfect location, right? Their wedding day was all they had ever dreamed of. Both Karina and Douglas chose to go with a minimalistic look for the wedding theme, a lot of white tones and some rich elements of navy blue color. At the front of the Villa la Joya, on the greatly popular elegant stairs, they held their Religious ceremony in Spanish and Portuguese. The altar was acrylic, with white columns and a gorgeous splash of exquisite flowers which made the ideal backdrop for their joyful and intimate ceremony.
The cocktail hour and the reception took place at the Villa la Joya’s terrace by the pool, which we decorated with a beautiful candle display by Candle Boutique. One of my favorite things that we got to plan was the tequila shots seat assignments–with the motto ‘take a shot and find your seat’. For the reception layout, we used mirror glass tables with transparent chairs, where each seating assignment had a thank you note and orchid flower to honor the memory of Karina’s Grandmother.
During the cocktail hour, the couple and their guests enjoyed delicious appetizers and margaritas by Chef Soberanis. To celebrate the occasion, the bride’s family served the traditional drink of Columbia, called the Aguardiente. The cake, made by the brilliant La Migaja, was tastefully designed with white and marble blue fondant and sparkle of golden leaves.
All the guests and family shared happy tears during the groom’s surprise video for the bride with their pictures and messages of family members who weren’t able to come and celebrate this day with the couple. Afterward, the party started and the dance floor opened with their favorite Columbian songs, played by the DJ who kept everyone on their feet all night long. Karina and Douglas wanted to bring more entertaining to their wedding and hired performers, like a robot on stilts and impersonator of Celia Cruz. Even though the night sky brought on unexpected rain clouds, we all had the best time of our lives.
