9 useful tips for destination wedding makeup

Every bride deserves to look flawless on their wedding day, starting with the wedding dress up to the makeup. All eyes will be turned right into you, especially your smile and face. So you better get prepared. No one wants melting makeup, sticky lipstick or smeared eye as their perfect wedding look.

Searching for the right makeup artist is a MUST thing to do. Take a very important step and schedule an appointment before you hire someone to do your makeup. Consulting with your artist will help you consider all things in the matter, from the characteristics of your face to the designs of the wedding dresses and jewelry. However, the key to an outstanding destination wedding makeup is to embrace the environment you are in. You choose your wedding to take place outdoors and it’s very different from having your wedding indoors. So, you might need to adapt your make-up routine to beat the heat and humidity. Also, do not forget to discuss the products you should use to ensure your makeup lasts all day.

The most common question we get from our future brides is “What look should we do that will last all day on the beach?” And, here in Riviera Maya, we like to say: It’s hot, so why not embrace the natural glow?

Here are NINE useful tips for picking the finest products that will perfect the look, beat the heat and stay all day

PREP YOUR SKIN

The first step to heaving the ideal makeup is preparing your skin. You need to ensure that the skin feels soft and comfortable, and it’s ready for makeup. If you skip out on your skincare routine, your makeup might wear off too soon. The night before the special day, take an hour to two and have spa night only by yourself. Cleanse and exfoliate your skin, apply a mask and a good layer of moisturizing cream for hydration. Very important rule: use oil-free for everything!

Plus tip: Don’t forget to relax, because the clear and healthy face comes from a clear and healthy mind.

SUNSCREEN

Probably know this so far, but PLEASE APPLY SUNSCREEN before you start with the makeup. You will be outdoors in the sun, and even if it’s cloudy, you definitely need SPF. There are many powder formulas available so that your cream foundation won’t smear, run, or rub off.

PRIMER

Priming products are used to help makeup last longer, even out the skin tone and smooth the skin’s surface. This wonderful product creates an extra layer between your skin and makeup. Our recommendation is buying a long-wearing primer that locks the foundation in place all day. Also, it makes the skin has that natural glow too.

Use primer for your face, eyelids, and lips.

FOUNDATION

Go for a lightweight foundation, so it’s easy to avoid a cakey, overdone finish. If you are not so sure about the right shade for your skin, consult this with your makeup artist. You don’t want that to ruin the wedding pictures. Indeed better, if you find a waterproof foundation.

Another great option for a foundation is ‘airbrush makeup’. It is a technique of applying makeup to the skin using the airbrush system as opposed to the traditional method of using brushes, sponges or fingers. Here, in Riviera Maya, a lot of local makeup artists recommend this foundation technique for a beautiful, glowy and smooth finish.

BLUSH AND HIGHLIGHTS

Use natural shades for blush and highlights too. You will already have the natural glow from the Sun, so don’t go overboard with the highlight. Less is better!

EYES

Besides your bridesmaids, waterproof mascara is your best friend on your wedding day. It’s a must for your destination wedding, for when, is hot and humid outside, because the high-temperature causes mascara formulas to smudge.

If you go with the beach makeup look, natural eye shadow colors are probably a better idea. The contrast between the eye shadow and eye color can really make your eyes pop and sparkle.

LIPS

You can’t go wrong with a code of your favorite lip gloss. Apply it after the color pencil or lipstick, and it will keep the lips moist, and not dry, which leaves them looking shiny and luscious.

FINISH TOUCHES

Finish touches are as important as prepping your skin. Use a setting powder that mattifies the skin, does not cake and crease up and does not reflect flash in photos! Another good variation is a fixing spray for natural glow and hydration.

TOUCH-UP KIT

Pack a touch-up kit with the essentials, especially oil-absorbing sheets. You never know when your makeup will need a touch-up.
